The AIF provides researchers at MPI-CBG with access to high-end microscopy and biophysics imaging techniques that may not yet be commercially available. Recent microscopes provided by the facility include a custom built lattice lightsheet microscope, a large volume imaging microscope and several optical tweezer setups. To ensure MPI-CBG provides its researchers access to the latest innovations in biological and biophysical imaging, the AIF scouts for emerging technologies, builds and maintains advanced light and biophysical microscopy setups, and supports scientists by developing customized solutions.
Job Description
To further strengthen the MPI-CBG’s focus on innovative imaging technologies we are seeking a highly motivated and service-oriented microscopy and / or biophysicist specialist who will become part of the AIF team supporting imaging and biophysics projects spanning all scales from molecular processes and biophysical measurements to the development of entire organs and organisms.
The successful candidate will:
Identify emerging techniques and evaluate them with respect to significance for MPI-CBG researchers and feasibility of implementation
Construct and implement prototype-level light microscopes and biophysics imaging instruments in close collaboration with developer labs and companies
Maintain and service AIF imaging and biophysical systems to ensure availability of equipment
Contribute to the development of new imaging technologies by supporting research groups with their scientific projects
Your qualifications
Candidates should have a doctoral (Ph.D.) or Master degree in optics, physics, engineering or related subjects and a strong background in designing and constructing advanced light and biophysics microscopes or instruments. Expertise in computer interfacing, software development, and imaging of biological samples is an advantage.
